A species of plant belonging to the Myrtaceae family is called Campomanesia aromatica. The plant is unique to Brazil’s southeast Atlantic Forest ecoregion. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach heights of 2 to 20 metres. The plant is taken out of the wild so that it can be used locally as a medication and for its palatable fruits. In some places, like Martinique, it is sporadically grown for its fruit. The fruit’s delicate pulp has a flavour that is reminiscent of pine strawberries, and it may be eaten raw. The fruit is quite good. About 10mm long, the black fruit can be made into juices, ice creams, and jellies.
