A tropical tree called the Star Apple Fruit (Chrysophyllum Cainito) produces eatable fruits. When mature, star apples have a spherical shape and a two to four inch diameter. Depending on the kind, the hue of its smooth, leathery skin ranges from purple to red to yellow to green. Green star apples have a flavour that is aromatic, tropical, sweet, and pleasant with hints of persimmon, lychee, and apple. It has smooth, shiny green skin and is about the size of an apple.
The pulp of the star apple fruit is quite high in calcium, phosphorus, and phytochemicals called ALA antioxidants, which support a healthy immune system and help prevent some malignancies. It has also been used to cure sore throats and lessen the swelling brought on by pneumonia and laryngitis. The seeds have tonic and diuretic properties when crushed.
