Garcinia subelliptica, sometimes referred to as the Happiness Tree, is an evergreen tree with a compact conical crown with attractive glossy leaves that is common in coastal forests of East and Southeast Asia, particularly the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka. The tree only reaches heights of 2 to 12 metres. For use as an ingredient in cosmetics, the plant is gathered from the wild. After being pollinated, the tiny, cream-colored blossoms turn into yellow, meaty fruits that have flavours that are acidic, sweet, and astringent.
