A rare semi-deciduous tree from the Myrtaceae family, Eugenia platysema is native to Santa Catarina, Brazil, and has a tiny, rounded crown. Eugenia burkartiana and E. platysema have comparable flavours. Fruits of E. burkartiana are sweeter than those of P. E. platysema fruits have a jam-like texture and extremely dark red juice. This species can withstand extreme cold and light frosts.
