Evergreen Engkala/Litsea Garciae was first spotted growing in the wild and is thought to be a Borneo native .A little fruit called engkalak has a mild, avocado-like flavor. Pink changes to purple on the thin skin. These fruits with creamy white flesh are perched on cheery bracts in the form of cups. Vitamin C, potassium, antioxidants, and fiber are all included in engkala.
One of the traditional cuisines of the Iban people of Borneo is engkalak. The Iban people utilize the tree’s bark to heal snakebites, boils, bug stings, and burns in addition to using the fruits as sustenance.
