From the family Annonaceae, Duguetia peruviana is a rare species of tree. It is a tiny tree or evergreen shrub. It is only known from low elevation rainforests along the coast of Ecuador; it is likely absent from Peru. Young trees prefer mild shade, and their initial growth is quite slow. Fruits can be consumed raw, and the brilliant red fruit has a very sweet flavour. The tree begins to bear fruit three to four years after it is planted.
