A fruit-bearing tree of the genus Canarium in the family Burseraceae, the dabai is native to Borneo. Locally, it is referred to as Kembayau in Sabah and Brunei and Dabai in Sarawak. In Sarawak, its fruit is considered as a seasonal delicacy. Dabai tastes like creamy avocado when soaked, yet when eaten raw, it tastes like olives, carrots, and brie cheese. Dabai is seasoned with soy sauce, sugar, or salt after soaking. The seeds are comparable to almonds or pistachios and are edible because they belong to the same genus as the Pili nut (Canarium Ovatum).
