In the Southwest Pacific, Vanuatu and Fiji are home to the diminutive evergreen tree known as Cut Nut, also called Pao Nut, Boxfruit Tree, Heart Tree, and Yum-Yum Tree. In the sun or the shade, cut nut trees can flourish. Typically, the tree is harvested for food, medicine, and wood. It also makes a lovely attractive tree for home gardens.
The fruits are edible either raw or cooked, however they are reputed to be bland. The edible seeds have a flavour similar to peanuts.
