Fast-growing little deciduous or semi-evergreen tree from the Annonaceae family, the custard apple (Annona reticulata). It is best known for the custard apple, a fruit that it produces. It features a fruit with a smooth skin that ripens to a dull red colour. Its custard-like pulp is less flavorful and more sweet than that of other well-known species like A. Squamosa (Sweetsop) and A. Muricata (Soursop). Fruit pulp can be used to flavour ice cream and is consumed fresh.
