Small evergreen Vaccinium subg. Oxycoccus shrubs belong to the Ericaceae family. It is grown extensively in Chile, the United States, Canada, and central and northern Europe. Cranberries are rarely consumed fresh due to their extremely astringent and sour flavour. They are actually most frequently drunk as juice, which is typically combined with other fruit liquids and sweetened. For cranberries to set flowers and bear fruit in the spring, they need three months of chilly winter temperatures at 1 to 7°C.
Cranberries are regarded as a superfood by many due to their high nutritional and antioxidant content. In fact, studies have connected the minerals in cranberries to reduced risk of urinary tract infection (UTI), prevention of specific forms of cancer, enhanced immune system, and lowered blood pressure.
