A native of central and southern Europe and western Asia, Cornus mas, often known as cornelian cherry, is a deciduous shrub or small tree. It takes this species up to 10 years to reach a height of 15 feet because it grows quite slowly. It can flourish on ordinary, medium-quality, well-drained soil that receives full sun to partial shade. favours organically rich, wet soils. To stop the spread, quickly remove root suckers. Eating and preparing Cornelian cherries is very flexible. Acidic and sweet, cherries can be consumed fresh or dried, and they are frequently used to make wine and liqueur. They can also be preserved. The fruits are made into jams and marmalades as well as sherbet flavours in Turkey.
