Coral Berry/Ardisia Elliptica, also known as the Shoebutton Ardisia, Duck’s Eye, and Coralberry, is a tiny evergreen shrub or tree that is indigenous to Southeast Asia, the West Coast of India, Sri Lanka, Indochina, Malaysia, and New Guinea. The fleshy berry fruit is spherical, slightly starchy tasting, and transforms swiftly from green to red when it is still fairly immature. When it is fully grown, it turns deep purplish or black in colour and has one hard seed that is encased in a whitish-colored pulp.
The berries are regarded as one of the healthiest foods on the world and are often referred to as “Superfruits.” The great concentration of fibres, vitamins, minerals, and beneficial phytochemical substances, particularly polyphenols, is the source of this name’s worth.
