Small trees like Chytranthus mannii are uncommon on the So Tomé and Prncipe islands. It is listed among the species that are “almost at risk” on the IUCN’s red list. The tree takes several years to reach full productivity and grows naturally in the damp sections of the archipelago. Fruits on the tree grow straight on the trunk multiple times annually and are tasty. The triangular-shaped fruits feature a silky, violet-colored peel. When they are fully developed, they are sweet but not overly perfumed and have a firmness and flavour akin to pears.
