A slow-growing evergreen tree with a pyramidal crown, the Chikku Sapote/Manilkara Zapota is indigenous to Southern Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. It goes by several common names, including Sapodillas, Sapota, Chikoo, and Chico.
The sapote fruit has a strong personality. Its flesh has a pear-like texture and varies in colour from a pale yellow to an earthy brown. Its flavour and texture are incredibly sweet and malty. Each fruit has one to six seeds and is solid, glossy, and black.Fiber and vitamins A, B, and C are abundant. Additionally, it has a lot of antioxidants.
