The tree species Lacmellea oblongata, a member of the Apocynaceae family, is indigenous to south-eastern Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The tree’s edible sweet fruit and latex are gathered locally from the wild. Comparatively larger than other Lacmellas is the tasty fruit. Chewing gum is also produced from the fruit and its sweet sap. Hevea brasiliensis latex is very infrequently used to adulterate rubber due to its poor quality.
