The unusual fruit tree Cerejinha De Mattos/Eugenia Mattosii is a low- to medium-growing shrub that is native to Brazil. It is extensively grown by bonsai enthusiasts and gardeners in the South and Southeast, where it is similar to other Eugenias. It bears tiny, cherry-like fruits that resemble Surinam cherries and other Eugenias with thin skin. The fruits are said to have a highly palatable flavour as they mature to a stunning vivid red colour. Fruit with a shiny flat shell under it that has a sweet and tart pulp, edible peel, and loose seed.
