In the same genus as breadfruit and jackfruit is a species of tree known as Artocarpus integer, also referred to as chempedak or cempedak. It is an evergreen forest tree that grows quickly and can reach heights of 10 to 24 metres. It has a dense, rounded crown. Although the plant has many purposes, its delectable fruit is what makes it so valuable. It is occasionally grown for its fruit, especially in Jamaica and Kenya. The fruit is composed, delicious, prickly, and ranges in colour from yellow to brown. It can be consumed raw, fried with flour, or turned into a specific kind of pudding. It can be cooked as a vegetable or added to soups when it’s unripe. Golden-yellow in colour, the pulp of the ripe fruit is slimy and pungent.
