Carambola/Averrhoa The Old World tropics are the natural home of the fruit-bearing carambola tree. Carambolas are strange-looking fruits that are found on evergreen trees with short trunks and plenty of branches. The fruits are oblong, turning from dark or light green to orangey-yellow as they mature, and they contain ribs or wings that occasionally have green tips. When fully ripe, the golden meat is delicious and crisp and lies beneath the thin, waxy exterior. Young fruits have a sour flavour.
Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, and B-complex vitamins are abundant in carambolas. It has minerals including potassium, phosphorus, zinc, and iron as well as fibre, folate, and antioxidant flavonoids.
