Uvaria chamae is an odd Annona (related of the sugar apple), climbing shrub or small tree, native to Tropical Africa in a region from Senegal to the Central African Republic, growing up to 4 metres tall. For its edible fruit, medicinal properties, and other purposes, the tree is taken from the wild and used locally. Local markets occasionally sell the root bark, primarily for medicinal purposes. When ripe, the yellow fruit carpels in finger-like clusters offer a pleasant pulp that is commonly consumed.
