When young, mulberries grow quickly and can reach heights of 24 metres (79 ft). Simple, alternately oriented leaves that are frequently lobed and serrated on the margins. On young shoots as opposed to adult trees, lobes are more prevalent. Both monoecious and dioecious trees are possible. A numerous, mulberry fruit measures about 2-3 centimetres (3-1+1/4 inches) in length. Young fruits are either white, green, or light yellow. [5] As the fruit ripens, it changes colour from pink to red, then dark purple or black, and when it is fully ripe, it tastes sweet.
