An evergreen tree with the scientific name Annona Salzmannii is indigenous to Brazil. It has a height range of 6 to 20 metres. It is a very uncommon Annona with yellow to orange-skinned fruits weighing up to one pound. Fruits can be consumed raw, and the sweet pulp is incredibly pleasant and fiber-free.

Planting and Care

Feed young trees every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a complete fertilizer. Apply a 2 to 4 inch layer of mulch around the tree to within 6 inches of the trunk to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Special Feature

Because of its strong purgative action, the root is administered as a drastic treatment for dysentery and other ailments. In India, the crushed leaves are sniffed to overcome hysteria and fainting spells; they are also applied on ulcers and wounds, and a leaf decoction is taken in cases of dysentery.

It is used for its pleasantly perfumed edible fruits which yield an oil used in soapmaking.
