Large shrubs or trees called Myrica esculenta are indigenous to the hills of northern India, southern Bhutan, and Nepal. Bayberry, kaphal, and box myrtle are a few of its common names. It produces edible berries that are eaten locally. It is the national fruit of Uttarakhand, a state in northern India. It’s a well-known medicinal plant that is primarily discovered in the subtropical Himalayas. It is frequently used in folk medicine to treat a variety of conditions, including anaemia, fever, diarrhoea, ulcers, chronic bronchitis, chronic cough, asthma, and coughing. The tree is taken out of the wild and used locally as food and medicinal. Fruits can be consumed raw or turned into syrup, jam, or squash.
