The erect, evergreen Bakuri/Platonia Insignis tree has a narrow, pyramidal crown and a lot of yellow latex in the bark. Native to South America include Paraguay, Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, and Surinam. The Bakuri is one of the most popular fruits in the Amazonian region.

When ripe, the fruit has a thick skin and white flesh that is virtually spherical or ovoid-shaped, has a pleasant perfume, and tastes delicious, sweet, and subacid. Fruit can be consumed both raw and cooked when making sweets.

Between 6 and 11% of the oil in the seeds is used in combination with sweet almond oil to treat eczema and herpes. The astringent qualities of bark. Decoction is used to cure diarrhoea.

Planting and Care
