Abiu/ Pouteria Caimito is native to the Amazonian region of South America, are also known as Golden Star Apple and its has known in different names in different places,some of the names are : Temare in Venezuela, Caimito in Colombia, Luma or Cauje in Ecuador, Abieiro or Caimito in Brazil, Yellow Sapote or Yellow star apple in Trinidad.

Abiu fruit form varies from spherical to oval, pointed at the distal finish. It has a creamy, jelly-like texture and tastes sweet. It’s a flavor best delineated as caramel. The pulp is semi-transparent and of a dish consistency. It may be scooped out with a spoon and seeds may be simply removed. Abiu is bright yellow once ripe, all area unit terribly sweet.

Abiu is taken into account to be one of the simplest of the sapotes. Abiu fruit has a significant source of calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A, and vitamin C.

Planting and Care

Abiu trees require a moist and warm climate. The leaves are oblong to elliptic in shape and measure 10 to 25 cm by 40 to 55 mm wide. Needs very little care.
