An evergreen palm tree with a height range of 1 to 4 metres, the Arikury Palm (Syagrus Schizophylla) is indigenous to eastern Brazil in South America. Although occasionally a cluster of stems might arise, the plant typically only produces a single, unbranched stem that can range in diameter from 10 to 15 cm and is topped with an arrangement of 8 to 25 leaves that can grow up to 2 metres long. For local consumption, the eatable fruits are collected from the wild. The fruit’s pulp is fibrous, succulent, and has a deliciously sweet flavour. The fruit is approximately 20mm diameter and 35mm long.
