The best-rated and one of India’s most popular mango varieties is called Alphonso. Due to its excellent flavour and exquisite texture, it is a costly variety.
A seasonal fruit, the Alphonso is available from the middle of April through the end of June. The fruits have a rich, creamy, sensitive texture and a delicate, non-fibrous, juicy flesh, and they often weigh between 150 and 300 grammes. An Alphonso mango’s top skin eventually develops a golden-yellow colour with crimson flecks as the fruit ripens.
