Plinia Trunciflora is a well-known jaboticaba cultivar. The primary differentiating features are the long peduncles with 1-4 large seeds, brief juvenile period growing fruit at about 4-6 years of age from seed, costate ribs on the fruit, and large lanceolate leaves. The flat, dark-green leaves have an impressed principal nerve and small secondary pinnate veins. They are dull-shaded, have a very minor crease along the primary vein, and are dull-shaded overall.
The five to twenty light green or golden costate ribs on the globose fruit get smaller as the fruit ripens until they may even disappear in fully developed fruit. These costate ribs frequently retain their light green hue even after they cease projecting, creating an amazing contrast of light green streaks across an otherwise crimson fruit (this appearance is the cultivar’s most distinctive characteristic). There are often minor sepal fragments on the fruit’s apex that can be easily removed or eaten with the fruit. The fruit’s connection to the peduncle can be anything from a barely perceptible nipple to an outwardly conspicuous rostrate point, especially when it grows in clusters of up to six fruits.
The fruit’s sweet, luscious pulp is of good quality and is similar to that of other jaboticabas. It bears 2-4 large seeds.
